FAQs
-
If during the trip weather or other emergency arises, it is the captain's prerogative to seek safe harbor. If refuge is taken at other than the port of departure, every effort will be made to return passengers to departure location via land, free of charge.
-
If there are thunder storms on the date reserved, or should a trip be interrupted by dangerous weather conditions, parties will agree to a no additional charge REBOOKING. There will be no weather related refunds.
-
If anyone in your party tends to get motion sick, air sick or car sick than there is a strong possibility that seasickness will set in. Nobody likes feeling like that and that person would be better suited staying ashore. If however, members of your party enjoy skiing, bike riding, paddle boarding or kayaking you should be fine. Not everyone likes everything. We’re sorry if sailing didn’t meet your expectations. If we are asked to cut the trip short we certainly will, but there will be no refunds due to seasickness or incompatibility.

A cruiser the size of Verktadue can not tip over due to wind or waves. “Leaning” (sailors call it healing) is the result of the wind pushing on the very tall sails. Sailboats are designed to lean for efficiency. The reason large sailboats (keelboats like Verktadue) don’t tip over is because unseen, there is a very heavy counterweight below the waterline that adds stability.
-
Verktadue is a large comfortable cruiser made for overnight travel. She has a proper flush toilet, and even a hot water shower for after swim parties.

The Captain (and often crew) are trained as first responders. The captain reserves the right to inform law enforcement (Coast Guard, Cleveland Metropark Police, Ohio Dept of Natural Resources, County Sherriff, Cleveland Police Harbor Patrol, or others) of any and all infractions. Verktadue’s captain and crew have multiple means of calling for assistance including VHS radio and cellphone. Any safety threat from outside or on-board the boat will be dealt with accordingly. There will be absolutely NO LITTERING of foreign matter of any kind in the waters of Lake Erie or its tributaries. Any associated fees or fines will be paid by the violator. No-shows will be charged the full fee, with no exceptions. Late arrivals without notice will have that time simply deducted from their block as there may be another booking immediately afterward. No partial credit will be given.

Adult beverages are allowed for those legally able to consume them. Due to insurance regulations, we ask that guests only bring enough for one drink per hour per adult. Our crew are not allowed by law to come in contact with alcohol while on duty. We will show you how to mix drinks and store beverages in our comfortable galley (kitchen) but cannot do it for you.

Kids are always welcome with a few advisories. Each child must have one to one adult supervision. Everyone under 10 years of age must wear a personal flotation device at all times. Well behaved pets MAY be allowed aboard with captain’s express permission.

Captain Jeff is USCG Licensed and learned to sail on Long Island Sound and the coastal ocean waters of New England. Transplanting to Lake Erie, Jeff is an avid racer and sailor with more than twenty years experience. His crew are accomplished sailors and racers in their own right', often associated with Cleveland based North Coast Women’s Sailing Association. Many of these sailors have been with Jeff for years and were personally trained by him.

Venmo, Cash or Zelle seem the easiest but ask the captain, he’ll help you find what’s best for you. The crew (mates) often are unpaid interns that are working toward career goals of their own. If you feel they’ve provided a relaxing safe environment I’m sure they’d appreciate it. It’s not necessary to tip the captain.

For a seasonal picnic. It never hurts to bring an extra layer, especially in the spring. Hats, shades, sunscreen are all important. The only rule we have is no hard sole shoes, they can damage the deck. You’ll notice the crew are generally in polos, shorts and barefoot

Nothing really. It’s a play on words. The Isley Brothers song “Work to Do” was the inspiration. It’s me telling my wife that it’s to her benefit that I go play on my boat.
I'm taking care of business, woman can't you see
I've gotta make it for you and gotta make it for me
Sometimes it seems girl I'm neglecting you
Well I'd love to spend more time
I got so many things to do
