Meet Captain Jeff and his crew
Most of us met as members of North Coast Women’s Sailing (NCWSA.NET). While there are many ways to learn to sail opportunities on the North Coast, NCWSA is specifically concerned with offering women a safe space to learn and grow. “NCWSA empowers women to become more actively involved in sailboat racing through regattas and clinics, and to create a spirit of good fellowship among members”. Hosted by Edgewater Yacht Club, NCWSA provides scheduled races, educational meetings, and social events throughout the year. Although NCWSA is dedicated to the development and training of women sailors, NCWSA encourages men to be active in coaching, training, race committee, and other supportive roles. Feel free to ask any of us about joining NCWSA yourself.
Captain Jeff
Jeff retired as a manufacturing sales executive a few years back and bought a boat to fulfill a lifelong goal. An avid sailor, racer, and yacht club member, Jeff joined NCWSA as a coach and never looked back. Lake Erie is known as a worldwide training ground for world-class sailors and hosts or feeds some of the most prestigious freshwater regattas on Earth. Sailing teaches transferable skills in sportsmanship, teamwork, and communication, and fosters a flexible “be prepared for anything” mindset. Jeff is happily married to his college sweetheart “the most tolerant woman he knows”. Jeff says he named his boat “Verktadue” so on a nice day he always has an excuse to go sailing. “Sure honey, we can absolutely pick out new curtains for the guest room, but right now I’ve some Verktadue (say it fast and soft) of my own.”
